A new found hobby of mine is collecting issues of the short-lived Monster Times magazines that were published between 1972 to 1976. They are amazing colorful pieces of art that are oversized that allow for a huge middle poster that was just begging to be hung on a bedroom wall.
Issue No. 14 was the focused on Lon Chaney Jr.'s Wolf Man and includes a poster with a famous quote from the 1941 film. The freshness of the poster surprised me for basically a newspaper that is approaching 50 years of age.
Every issue has hidden treasures. Just take a look at this amazing Vincent Price subscription form. It is a piece of art.
Another issue I had to pick up immediately was No. 12, featuring the monster Gorgo in gorgeous orange. Mystery Science Theater 3000 lampooned the "horror" movie in Season 9 and it is one of my favorites and so this issue is an all-time favorite.
The poster is amazing, showing Gorko torching London with Big Ben and Tower Bridge destroyed. I may have to find another copy to frame someday.
In total, there were 48 issues and most copies can be found pretty easily for about $10.00. There are some exceptions through. Issue No. 2 featured Star Trek long before became the pop culture behemoth it is today. Issue No. 13 features Spider-Man on the cover and is one issue that you don't typically see for less than $50.
