Card Aisles I Have Known


My life has been one of transition these past few weeks as I've been moving houses and traveling around the north east. I've been to many a card aisle in my time but I don't think anything compares to the Target card aisle I found while stopping off in the city of New Hartford in upstate New York. The card display on the right continued on for several more feet with wax boxes from new and older products from more than a year. Appropriately, I came upon this lovely group of cards before heading over to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

I know the hobby isn't what it used to be... but this photograph made me realize something. Growing up in the 80's and 90's, I never once saw this kind of display at my local drug store. Even though I'm not big on busting retail... gotta admit places like Target, Walmart, and Toys R Us are doing their part in keeping our hobby alive.

It has to be because of the proximity to Cooperstown. Assuming it's a regular target (since the supers don't put their cards up against a wall but against a freestanding aisle), they just used their extra wall space for cards. Nice find!

Target supports cards consistently well, but the Wal-Marts in my area have all but gone out of the business. The one closest to me has a couple blasters of the current year's flagship (usually a series behind) and nothing else at all. The other one has a poorly maintained four foot section.
I'm jealous of my Michigan friend's Meijers. They have half an aisle most of the time...
