Apparently, "Skeeter" is a nickname for the name Scott but that doesn't seem to the be the case for William Henry Barnes so I'm not sure where his nickname came from. Mr. Barnes only played in about 350 games in his 11-year major league career but he had over 1,700 hits while playing in the minors.
