I'm sad to say that the Seattle card shop that got me back into collecting and eventually inspired the creation of Heartbreaking Cards, Brown's Cooperstown, is closing. The business had moved and been sold by the original owner in the past year so this wasn't an entire surprise but it is really sad nonetheless.
I knew it was a bad sign when an e-mail arrived at 1am:
Good Evening to All,
I have come to the decision to close Brown's Cooperstown at the end of June for good. Unfortunately, many factors are working against the hobby shops, Between the cost of rent and other fixed fees, and the availability of products on the secondary market, such as Ebay, it just does not work like it used to. I want to thank all of you that have come in this past year, I have really enjoyed my year. Being able to talk sports with some many different people has been a lot of fun.
As far as I know this leaves no other card shop in the city of Seattle [there are some shops in the suburbs around Seattle].
